The US Dept of State, International Boundary & Water Commission, awarded a single contract for LIDAR map products to KT Consulting, Inc. The contract has a six-month Performance Period.

KTC will provide aerial-based LIDAR data collection services and data products to support the US-Mexico international treaty on the boundary between the two countries along the Rio Grande River.
KTC and their subcontractor, The Sanborn Mapping Company, will fly approximately 2000 miles of the boundary, collecting data at highest possible commercial resolutions available today using Light Detection & Ranging equipment. LIDAR utilizes a laser beam fired at the ground from an airplane to measure distance to the ground; this technology emerged a few years ago as a fast and effective way to gather digital elevation model data. Final map products will be delivered to the IBWC within a few weeks of completing the data collection.

Established in 1889, the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) has responsibility for applying the boundary and water treaties between the United States and Mexico and settling differences that may arise out of these treaties. The IBWC is an international body composed of the United States Section and the Mexican Section, each headed by an Engineer-Commissioner appointed by his/her respective president.
